Mini-Series

My favorite works this year has to be my watercolor painting of the colored light bulbs. I loved how I was so detailed when painting the light bulbs. Also, I loved how well I did, since it was my first water color painting. I really enjoyed using watercolors and feel that this is my biggest strength. In addition to that strength I've also been very good at copying pictures with pencil. I wish I would had done more of that. My weakness had to be with pastels because of my detail ordinated skills I had trouble drawing with pastels. Pastels also were to thick and I had a horrible time trying to simplify my pictures. I loved the way I showed the lighting on my light bulb painting but wish I showed more of a difference between the shadow of the light bulb and the actual light bulb. I've learned a lot about myself in just this semester. I feel like I always doubted myself as an artist but the help of my teacher and friends really made me feel confident when trying something out of my comfort zone. I hope to explore more with water colors and pencil drawings when I go to college so I can finally perfect them. I really enjoyed doing art this semester and it really helped open my creative side of myself.

1. Transparent

Janet Fish

I was attracted to the obsessive detail that was done to emphasize the tightness of the plastic around the apples. It almost makes me feel out of breath when I am looking at it because its so realistic that I feel suffocated by the seram rap. The several shades of red and yellow, highlights and makes these apples seem more realistic and adds age to it. I used water colors to help get more shades in my paintings. Also just like Fish was trying to capture the highlights from the plastic around the apples, I tried to get the glassy look to my colored light bulbs.

I feel very accomplished with my painting. This is by far the best painting I have done all year. I think water colors are my strength. In addition My details were extraordinary and I felt like I really grasped the highlights in my pictures unlike my other drawings this year.

Hopper

I wanted to capture the frozen bay with the sunlight reflecting off of it. Also will have my dock shown in the picture. I really loved the way Hopper caught the broad reflections in all of his paintings especially his ocean paintings like the one shown above. I will make sure to emphasize the colors in the background to give it a smoother and less plain look.
